Acid Bomb Thrown At Mosque

An “acid bomb” was thrown outside the Albanian American Islamic Center of Arizona in Glendale on Monday, August 6. Eyewitness and police accounts say that the bomb was comprised of a soda bottle filled with acid and a reactant. The bomb burst around 20-25 feet away from Imam Didmar Faja and another mosque official. Made of pool cleaner and tin foil strips, the “bomb” released a strong chemical smell. Neither of the men were injured.

When the leaders of the Islamic Center of the East Bay (ICEB) came to open up the mosque for Friday Prayers on August 10, they discovered that the mosque had been broken into. Two days later, August 12 at 12:30 am, a damaging fire was started at the center. Neighbors informed the fire department of the incident, who say that there were 4 different attempts to start the fire. The blaze caused around $200,000 of damage and is being investigated as arson.

On a recent trip to Iowa, he says, “If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina. Because that is the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they would otherwise do."
